Even if you don’t work for naseba….read this entry with an open mind and reflect on yourself and become better.
Jack is the best sales persons I have ever met.
We have been close friends for a long time - At my previous company, I recruited him in Japan and he worked for me in Tokyo, Sydney, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Nice and Barcelona. When I moved to London in 2000 he quit the company, but we remained close friends.
Jack was the number one sales person for me in each of these offices at the time, he was probably the number one sales person in the company)He is exceptionally competitive. Although he is American like me, a big reason why Jack and I are so close is because money is not what motivates him - it is the victory, the summit is what he is after.
When we started naseba it took Jack a couple months before he joined came on board, he was on a long vacation and had become soft and unfocused. Up until naseba, the previous 3 years had been very easy for Jack. He had travelled the world, made a lot of easy money - essentially, he had become fat, spoiled and soft.
All the money and travels had turned Jack into a spoiled moaning bitch that was never happy. With the big deals he was selling, came big pay checks and prestige within the company. Jack became very difficult, nearly impossible to manage.
Today Jack admits that he had lost the true understanding of the- real world…
The real world….
One day, a few months after we started naseba, I discovered that I was being betrayed by my best friend, Matt Turnbull, someone whom Jack was also very close to - Jack had personally recruited Matt, managed and developed him in Tokyo, Shanghai, Nice and Barcelona -and this –best friend- owed whatever success he had to Jack Murphy.
Immediately, after this betrayal — something clicked and suddenly the old Jack was back.
Jack did not want to fail.
Over the past 4 years, Jack has developed and matured from a spoiled, over paid sales director - to someone that is reflective and more focused than any other person I have worked with.
The day we went public- October 5th, 2006 Jack, Fabien, Nic, Sophie and I were at one of the best restaurants in Paris and Jack made a toast that I will never forget -here is to Matt Turnbull
