facebook is making the world soft

I know I have said this many times, but one of the greatest men I have ever met is my 94 year old grandfather – Selser Pickett.

In my entire life, I have never heard him complain once.

Never.

I have never heard even a perfunctory “I don’t feel good…” from him

Never a “my head hurts…” Never a “I’m tired.”

Furthermore – he doesn’t moan or complain about other people.
I have never heard him speak a bad word about anyone.

Not an ounce of negativity in this man.
Surely, this has something to do with why he is still so healthy and strong at the age of 94.

A man with the ideal character.

Many of my blog readers, especially,  Americans are probably thinking of their own grandfathers – and most probably many readers are thinking to themselves “my grandfather is similar – he never complained either.”

Imagine going through life and never ever complaining, moaning, bitching, whining about anything…

Imagine going through life and never speaking negatively of others…

Imagine a life focused entirely on the positive – even when you have a shit day ….

For the past 10 years or so, I have focused on trying not to moan and complain.

My attempt to be stoic often fails when I don’t sleep well …. because I will moan to Sophie – “I slept poorly.”

It is worth us all reflecting ….

Why is it that our grandparents generation was so much more stoic than our current world?

I think the world, especially America has become soft – full of people moaning, whining, complaining ….constantly, the need for “sharing” our problems with others….

Just look at the status updates on Facebook of your friends.

How many status updates say something negative – or are moaning, whining about something?
Or add zero value to anyone who reads it?

One that I often see:  “I don’t want to go to work!” or “I can’t wait until the weekend..”

This constant need to share our feelings and problems with other people.

Why do so many people complain about such stupid shit??

… what positive is gained from all this moaning?

I challenge the readers of this blog to go the rest of the week without complaining/moaning/whining/bitching/sharing … whatever we want to call it …

but try to go the rest of the week focusing only on the positive.

I guarantee you will feel much better if you focus only on things which are positive.
